On the Embedding Problem for Nonsolvable Galois Groups of Algebraic Number Fields: Reduction Theorems
نویسنده
چکیده
is to construct an extension L/K such that L/k is Galois, and such that there exists an isomorphism /?:£ -* E, where £ = Gal(L//c), such that y ResL/K = e(i. L is called a solution field, j? a solution isomorphism, and the pair (L, fi) a solution, to P. At times we only require /? to be monomorphic; in such a context (L, /?) is called an improper solution, and if j? is epi, (L, /?) is a proper solution.

Nonsolvable number fields ramified only at 3 and 5
For p = 3 and p = 5, we exhibit a finite nonsolvable extension of Q which is ramified only at p via explicit computations with Hilbert modular forms. The study of Galois number fields with prescribed ramification remains a central question in number theory. Class field theory, a triumph of early twentieth century algebraic number theory, provides a satisfactory way to understand solvable extens...
متن کاملNotes on Introductory Algebraic Number Theory
This paper introduces the basic results of Algebraic Number Theory. Accordingly, having established the existence of integral bases and the result that ideals in Dedekind domains can be uniquely decomposed into prime ideals, we then give the relation between ramification index, residue class degree and the degree of the extension. Moreover, we also demonstrate the connection between the decompo...
متن کاملThe nonexistence of nonsolvable octic number fields ramified only at one small prime
We prove that there is no primitive octic number field ramified only at one small prime, and so no such number field with a nonsolvable Galois group.

متن کاملGroup Actions, p-Groups, and the Sylow Theorems
In this note we introduce the notion of a group action on a set and use it to prove a number of theorems about p-groups and the Sylow theorems. For undefined terms see any decent book on group theory. The theory of p-groups and the Sylow theorems have a number of applications in Galoistheory. The nice structure of p-groups will translate via the fundamental theorem of Galois theory to nice stru...
